The Signs of Laylatul Qadr

The Signs of Laylatul Qadr

Laylatul Qadr, also known as the Night of Power, is a night of immense blessings and rewards. While the exact date is hidden, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) shared signs to help believers recognise this special night. Here are two key signs:

1. The Sun Rises Without Rays

On the morning after Laylatul Qadr, the sun rises gently, without its usual glaring rays.

Ubayy ibn Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

"The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'On the morning following Laylat-ul Qadr, the sun rises without any rays, as if it were a brass dish, until it rises up.'"

(Muslim)

2. The Night is Calm and Pleasant

Laylatul Qadr is characterized by a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. It is neither too hot nor too cold, and everything feels calm and serene. Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

"Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'Laylat-ul Qadr is calm and pleasant, neither hot nor cold, the sun rises on its morning being feeble and red.'”

Ibn Khuzaimah

While these signs are a guide, the true essence of Laylatul Qadr lies in seeking Allah’s mercy through prayer, dua, and devotion during the last ten nights of Ramadan.

May Allah bless us with the ability to witness and benefit from this blessed night. Ameen.
