Duas for Laylatul Qadr: The Night of Power

Laylatul Qadr, also known as the Night of Power, is one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar. This night, described in Surah Al-Qadr, is better than a thousand months and holds immense blessings, mercy, and forgiveness. It is an opportunity for Muslims to seek Allah's pleasure and make heartfelt supplications.

The Most Important Dua for Laylatul Qadr

 

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) a beautiful dua to recite on Laylatul Qadr. She asked the Prophet:

 

“O Messenger of Allah, what do you think I should say in my supplication, if I come upon Laylatul-Qadr?”

 

He replied:

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

 

Transliteration: "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni"

 

Translation: O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me

 

Sunnan Ibn majah

 

This concise and powerful dua encapsulates the essence of Laylatul Qadr: seeking Allah's forgiveness and mercy.

Arabic: رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِي أَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration: Rabbana ighfir lana dhunubana wa israfana fi amrina wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna ‘ala al-qawm al-kafirin.

Translation: "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our transgressions, make our steps firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people."

Surah Imran 3:147

Arabic: رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Transliteration: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan waqina ‘adhab an-nar.

Translation: "Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."
