Afghanistan communities in crisis
On 31 August 2025, a powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. Over 1,400 people were killed, more than 3,500 injured (as of 03/09/2025), and thousands displaced as entire villages were flattened. With roads cut off and infrastructure destroyed, survivors are left facing hunger and uncertainty.
Hunger on top of heartbreak
Even before this disaster, 14 million Afghans lived with daily food insecurity. The earthquake has deepened this crisis, leaving families unsure of where their next meal will come from.
MAA International on the ground
MAA International is responding with urgent food packs and hot meals for survivors in Jalalabad, near the epicentre. While our immediate priority is life-saving aid, we are also assessing long-term recovery needs to help families rebuild their lives with dignity.
